In the Chinese zodiac, monkeys are smart, resourceful, and talented. The monkey is a strong and savvy animal with a sincere and generous outlook. The new Luminor 1950 Sealand Year of the Monkey limited edition watch and the other watches of the Zodiac series adopt the same design. The stainless steel cover is engraved with a detailed relief of the monkey zodiac, in line with the traditional design of Chinese ancient astrology. The watch cover is carved by hand, which is the crystallization of unique craftsmanship. The craftsman first carved grooves in stainless steel using a unique tool called ‘sparsello’ to outline the lifelike lines of the monkey. After embedding the multi-level parallel gold wire, the craftsman carefully hammered it, so that the gold wire completely filled the groove of the contour line of the monkey, and the lines were more vivid. Since the gold silk intarsia process must be performed on the engraved and polished watch cover, any slight error during the inlaying process will damage the watch cover and cause the previous work to be abandoned. Therefore, only the artisans who have mastered the superb craftsmanship can do it.
There is a small mirror inside the engraved cover of the monkey pattern. Opening the cover, the simple gray dial appears. The dial has a small seconds at 9 o’clock and a date display at 3 o’clock. The Year of the Monkey Limited Edition is housed in a Luminor 1950 case (44 mm in diameter). The cover is made of a single piece of AISI 316L frosted stainless steel and is equipped with a bridge guard cast from the same material.
